About Scanmarker
We believe every student deserves to access the written word.
Scanmarker builds reading technology for students who learn differently — students with dyslexia, English language learners, and anyone who finds reading on the page harder than it should be. Our devices and software are designed to support independence, not create dependency.

Our Mission
Make reading accessible to every student by removing barriers through technology that supports independence.
Every product decision at Scanmarker is filtered through this lens. From hardware design to pricing to partnerships, we ask: does this serve the mission?
Our Vision
A world where no student struggles with text, and every reader can approach any page with confidence.
We measure success not by features shipped, but by struggling readers who approach the next page with confidence.
Our Story
Started in a special education classroom.
Scanmarker was founded in 2013 by David Levy, a special education teacher who watched his students struggle daily with text that their peers absorbed without effort. Students with dyslexia spent so much energy decoding words that they had nothing left for comprehension. English language learners could understand a concept perfectly — if only they could understand the words on the page.
David partnered with Mia Chen, whose research background in optical character recognition made the core technology possible. Together, they set out to build a device small enough to fit in a pencil case but powerful enough to remove the reading barrier entirely — a pen that could scan any printed line and read it aloud in the student's language within one second.
Today, Scanmarker devices are used by over 300,000 students and professionals in 45 countries. We remain focused on the original mission: making every page of text accessible to every reader.

Our Values
What We Stand For
Accessibility First
Every feature we build starts with the question: does this remove a barrier for a struggling reader? Design, pricing, and procurement processes all serve that goal.
Evidence-Based
Scanmarker features are grounded in structured literacy research, IDEA guidelines, and real classroom feedback. We build what works, not what sounds impressive.
Built for Schools
Schools have complex procurement realities — purchase orders, ClassWallet, state bids, Title I restrictions. We make our products and processes work within those constraints, not around them.
Student Independence
Our goal is not to create dependency on a device. We design Scanmarker to build reading confidence — students should be able to approach any text with less anxiety because of what they learn using our tools.
